What Causes Feminine Discomfort like vaginal dryness, itching and odor

Symptoms of feminine pain and discomfort vary, depending on the underlying causes. As an example, Vulvar vestibulitis is a condition that causes pain only when there’s pressure in your feminine area. In contrast, vulvodynia is a condition that causes constant chronic pain.

Depending on your specific condition, you might experience one or more of the following symptoms associated with feminine pain:

  • Burning
  • Itching
  • Throbbing
  • Soreness
  • Stinging
  • Rawness
  • Pain during intercourse

If your feminine pain is caused by a condition, you may develop an abnormal discharge. For example, it may look or smell different than usual. This can indicate a yeast or bacterial condition.

What Causes Pain in the Feminine Area?

Feminine pain may be confined to your intimate area. Or, it may radiate down from your pelvis or cervix.

The most common cause of feminine pain are the following conditions:

  • Yeast
  • Gonorrhea
  • Chlamydia

Other potential causes of feminine pain include:

  • Trauma caused by Surgery
  • Trauma caused by Intercourse
  • Trauma caused by Childbirth
  • Trauma caused by Medical Procedures
  • Vulvovaginal atrophy (dryness) due to lower estrogen levels
  • Vulvar vestibulitis
  • Cervical cancer
  • Painful intercourse

Vaginal pain can also stem from psychological conditions, such as a history of sexual abuse.

In some cases, your doctor may not be able to determine the cause of your vaginal pain. Vulvodynia is the medical term for chronic vaginal pain with no known cause.
